Counter Tops

Counter Top Materials

The most fantastic thing about the counter top materials available today are the colors, textures and durability they offer. They can all be installed and fabricated to create a kitchen unique to only yours.

For example use a solid surface material, stone or even a laminate on the counter and then a tumbled marble or ceramic tile on the splash. Create a mural behind the range by using painted tiles or maybe a picture frame design with tile would be more appropriate for your kitchen.
Ceramic Tile
Ceramic tile continues to be one the most flexible materials regarding styles, colors available and durability. There are literally tens of thousands of different tile designs and colors. Tile is durable, available in thousands of colors and styles and very resistant to heat.

Laminate
Laminates continue to be a popular choice for many families. Many people do not realize laminates have been used in the kitchen for over 50 years in all types of remodeling - from entry level to high end kitchen remodeling. They are not always used just for counter tops - many times they are used for cabinetry for a contemporary look - and due to the color and textures offered can make a real statement in your home. Laminates are easy to clean and to maintain plus offer a fair level of durability.

Solid Surface Materials
These materials include Corian, Staron, LG Hi-Macs and many others. Over the past 30 years since the first solid surface material was introduced (Corian from Dupont) with just a few colors there are now many different colors and patterns available. The most popular now would be the granite or stone look. Solid surface materials are non-porous, easy to clean and require little maintenance. These materials just as most other counter tops can be damaged by high heat. Did you know granite can be damaged or even crack if you set a hot skillet on it? If this were to happen to a solid surface material it can usually be repaired and does not need to be replaced.

Granite and Quartz
Granite and Quartz counter tops are the most popular materials for new and remodeled kitchen and baths. The main appeal to these materials is their high gloss finish that will brighten even the darkest kitchen or bath. Stone products offer ease of cleaning, are more heat resistant than solid surface material and laminates. Granite is available in many different patterns and colors as each piece is usually selected by the customer at a granite yard. Quartz material such as CaesarStone and SileStone are very consistent in color and pattern which appeals to many homeowners, designers and architects plus has a 10 year warranty and does not require sealing.

Concrete
Concrete counters have an elegant, stone-like quality which is durable and easy to care for. They can be cast in a wide range of colors, shapes and textures. Bull nose and back splash can be applied in any configuration to provide accent and drama.
